When we surrender to the idea that we don’t have enough time, only then we will have all the necessary time.

Be Yourself.

In Film, Inspiration, Photography on November 26, 2011 at 10:38 am

It is important to stay true to yourself. Whatever you do, this applies.

As someone said, be yourself, because everyone else is taken.

I cannot stress how relevant this topic is in current days, when struggle for popularity and beauty has never been so harsh.

It is important to remember: YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL. AND YOU ARE WORTHY. No matter what glossy magazines show and TV broadcasts. YOU ARE YOURSELF. There are lots of people who would love to be you. I can assure.

There is an article from the Film News website, about Salma Hayek. She says about the beginnings of her career:

“If I had followed someone else I would never have gotten here. Sometimes when we try to get outside of ourselves to be like someone else you miss out on so many beautiful things that you didn’t know about because you were looking at someone else.”

Salma Hayek in ‘Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant’, 2009

According to the article, the actress blames modern technology for society’s fascination with what other people think. Have you ever stopped doing something because you thought someone might not like what you were doing, and then regretted it? If so, this article is for you.

She also says: “Everybody is obsessed with their own identity seen through other people and everybody thinks very much outside of themselves. So this is my advice, try to figure out who you really are and not who you want other people to think you are.”

Wassily Kandinsky

In Inspiration, Painting on November 25, 2011 at 2:12 am

There are many pictures that evoke emotions. There are ones that fill you up with hope, ones that bring memories, ones that trigger pictures in your head (like in a movie), or a combination of all that, and even more. It happens to me when I look at something like the one below.

This is Composition VII by a Russian painter Wassily Kandinsky, my picture of the day.

Painted in 1913, it is said to be the most complex piece the painter ever did, according to himself. Well, the level of abstraction is high, but it seems to me like a picture that evokes dreams. Although this is not surrealism, I feel that you can find many things and associations in it if you look close enough. Just a hint: you can find a figure of the soldier, you can find musical instruments there (this is what I can see there)… And many, many other things. Leave it to your imagination. That is what abstract paintings are about. They tell you something but only you can tell what it is.

I love the colours.

When you find other things in the painting, tell me, please. I am curious what you personally can see in this picture.

Have fun! 🙂

The picture of today.

Parrotfish on Great Barrier Reef

🙂

This is a parrotfish on Great Barrier Reef in the Coral Sea.

These are actually the teeth that it uses to scrape algae from rock.

You can find the picture on the National Geographic website, in the Photo of the Day section.

What else to say…

Something beautiful for today.

Photos.

Of nature (not only).

Whenever you feel down or uninspired, look at how beautiful the world is… There are so many places waiting to be discovered by you.

There are so many things we are taking for granted. We should not.

This is Lithuania.

This is Salmon River in Idaho.

This is Solstice in Manhattan

And this is a lion in Uganda…

I find the above picture beautiful. And majestic.

The world is full of these rare moments that are just waiting until someone captures them with a camera in all their uniqueness.

You can find all these pictures on the National Geographic website. There is a Photo of the Day section that you can take a glimpse of every day. I recommend.

Uplifting for me.

Orianthi – Drive Away.

In Inspiration, Music, Video on November 23, 2011 at 6:33 pm

There are days when we want to get somewhere else than we are.

There are days when we keep dozing off or daydreaming about another place, some distant (or even very close) location and think about things that could happen there.

There are days when we want to… drive away. Like in the Tracy Chapman’s ‘Fast Car’… But in a positive way. 🙂

Yesterday I was writing about Orianthi, and there is another song by her, perfect for that kind of mood.

It’s called… DRIVE AWAY. 🙂

Here is a very special acoustic version played and sung by her sitting underneath a big tree… Just for you guys. 🙂

I hope you enjoy that. 🙂

Orianthi

In Inspiration, Music, Video on November 22, 2011 at 6:49 pm

Here is something I want to share with you today. A girl who inspires me and whose talent and passion really move me.

Her name is Orianthi Panagaris, her stage name is ORIANTHI. The Australian girl whose true passion for playing guitar led her to some giant leaps in her career, which included playing with Michael Jackson at the age of 24!!! She was his lead guitarist during “This Is It”, which was released in 2009 and shown in cinemas around the world.

She is amazing. She can play everything on the guitar. She has played with Alice Cooper and Steve Vai (and many others). She sings too and does it well!

She is a nice person too.

And beautiful.

But what inspires me most is one song of her. It is called ‘Courage’. The song comes from her second album, ‘Believe’, released in 2009.

You can find the song here:

A version with lyrics on screen is here:

If you have Spotify, you can find the song here: “Courage” by Orianthi on Spotify. There is the whole album for you to listen to, on which you can find other inspiring songs.

The lyrics of the song inspire me a lot. Here you go:

Orianthi – Courage lyrics

Take all my vicious words
And turn them into something good
Take all my preconceptions
And let the truth be understood

Take all my prized possessions
Leave only what I need
Take all my pieces of doubt
And let me be what’s underneath

Courage is when you’re afraid
But you keep on moving anyway
Courage is when you’re in pain
But you keep on living anyway

We all have excuses why
Living in fear something in us dies
Like a bird with broken wings
It’s not how high he flies but the song he sings

Courage is when you’re afraid
But you keep on moving anyway
Courage is when you’re in pain
But you keep on living anyway

It’s not how many times you’ve been knocked down
It’s how many times you get back up
Courage is when you’ve lost your way
But you find your strength anyway

Courage is when you’re afraid
Courage is when it all seems gray
Courage is when you make a change
And you keep on living anyway

You keep on moving anyway
You keep on giving anyway
You keep on loving anyway

Isn’t that amazing?

She has also just released a new EP, ‘Fire’, which you can find on Spotify and iTunes.

I hope you get inspired!

Lots of love to you, Orianthi. Keep being amazing.

The Lion King.

In Inspiration, Music, Video on November 21, 2011 at 10:43 pm

I would like to share with you the very inspiring thing that keeps me going and strikes a sympathetic chord in me whenever I’m watching (or listening). I can guess that a lot of you know this thing, when something is so stuck in your head that you simply cannot stop humming it, no matter how ‘childish’ it may seem to you. Nothing is childish really. Childhood is a period when we are open to the world and everything that comes our way is a blessing and seems very exciting. We’re creative! And we don’t have assumptions and stereotypes about things and people. We are just sincere. That’s why I am getting sentimental over small things, or even bigger things, that I used to do as a child. And one of them is…

THE LION KING!!!

The famous movie for all ages (yes, I mean it, lots of adults could learn a lot from it!), the amazing journey through life that the main character, Simba, is undergoing (together with his best friend, Nala), a journey through discovering things, finding yourself and getting to know your place in the world.

I am sure a lot of you know this song:

‘Circle of Life’ lyrics:

From the day we arrive on the planet
And blinking, step into the sun
There's more to see than can ever be seen
More to do than can ever be done
There's far too much to take in here
More to find than can ever be found
But the sun rolling high
Through the sapphire sky
Keeps great and small
on the endless round
It's the Circle of Life
And it moves us all
Through despair and hope
Through faith and love
Till we find our place
On the path unwinding
In the Circle
The Circle of Life

This is beautiful. This is about how we all are connected. We are, indeed. The wisdom contained in this simple song is overwhelming. It is about finding your way through darkness and realising how precious the world is and how important others are. Not for kids. Not only. This is universal.

Remember that? Shall you ever be lonely or feeling down, remember this. Two made up words that can change everything: your way of thinking at the moment (and this can change a lot more…).

‘It means no worries for the rest of your days…

it’s a problem free philosophy… HAKUNA MATATA!’

Whether you are a beautiful lion, or a hog, this song is for you. No one will judge. Just listen to it when you feel down. It helps me.

And there is Lion King The Musical… They show it in London’s Lyceum Theatre, in New York, Hamburg, Barcelona, Tokyo, Toronto, Los Angeles, Sydney, Honolulu, Mexico City, Taipei, Singapore, Melbourn, Netherlands, Seoul, Johannesburg, Madrid and Paris…

This is my favourite song from the show: ‘He lives in you’. Here you have a little preview of how amazing and thrilling the musical is. I saw it two times in London and once in Hamburg. Breath-taking, mind-blowing, exhilarating. Absolutely marvelous. Here is the song:

And the singing… Ahhh, I have shivers down my spine.

If you wanna see more about what the musical is like, watch this:

It should say something about the popularity of the music and the message, if it is shown in so many places around the world…

And the beautiful music by Elton John, lyrics by Tim Rice, book by Roger Allers and Irene Mecchi. Worth listening to. I dare to say, it is a musical masterpiece.

And the film version. It is still showing in cinemas! Lion King 3D! The cartoon. They’ve remade it (well, nothing has changed, only the 3D effect has been added) and you can see it on a big screen whenever you want it. That’s quite something. I saw it two weeks ago. I cried the same way like while watching it as a child… 😉

So here it is, THE LION KING.

Definite inspiration for a foggy day. 🙂

There is also Lion King 2 and Lion King 3… But that may be a topic for another post… 🙂
