You are strong.

In Inspiration, Music, Photography, Universe on January 30, 2012 at 11:27 pm

Strength.

What is strength?

Is it something you are born with?

Can you learn this?

Is it working hard to get what you want?

Is it tons of muscles?

Is it the way you wake up every morning, struggling to hold it together, facing difficulties and going through them no matter what happens?

Choose one for you or create an entirely new definition to suit your dreams.

Exactly. Your dreams define who you are. No matter what happens, you are supposed to follow your dreams. You were made to do that. And to be strong. And that is sometimes useful more than anything,

Strength is not built on muscles. It is built in your heart.

It is that little voice that tells you to do things, when everyone else is telling you to stop.

It’s that little hint of hope that makes you do something, despite it being deemed impossible.

Finally, it is something you ARE born with. Everybody is. It’s up to you, whether you’re gonna use it.

You were born beautiful. And you were born strong.

Stay strong.

What day is today?

In Film, Inspiration, Music, Video on December 18, 2011 at 6:21 pm

My Dear Readers, I sometimes notice that people are not right here right now. Really. Even if they are physically present, their minds are drifting somewhere in an undiscovered space, a place in their dreams. It is good to dream. It is amazing to dream. BUT…

If you dream, make sure you appreciate the present. This is the only way to make these dreams happen. After all, what will happen in the future depends on the actions you take TODAY.

FUTURE – what is it really? Is it a place, a time? Where is it? Well, let me put it like that: it is just your imagination. It is the plans you make about things you want or do not want to happen. It is full of your wishes but also your fears. It is full of images. But still – they are just images in your mind, however beautiful they may be. What is happening is TODAY. Every day is today. The only thing we have is today.  The future is in our minds, coloured by our imagination, and the past is not here anymore, it is just in our memory. What exists, is just now. Even in ten years’ time, it will still be TODAY when you wake up.

So, take your time to appreciate and embrace everything that you have now. Be grateful. This is the only thing you have.

This is a clip from the brilliant musical RENT, made into a movie. This is a really beautiful story about young people who are disadvantaged, seriously ill and going through difficult things but above everything they want to enjoy life. They want to enjoy the present. This is the only thing they have. TODAY.

“No day but today” from RENT musical lyrics:

The heart may freeze or it can burn
The pain will ease if I can learn

There is no future
There is no past
Thank God this moment’s not the last

There’s only us
There’s only this
Forget regret– or life is yours to miss.
No other road
No other way
No day but today

There’s only yes
Only tonight
We must let go
To know what is alright
No other course
No other way
No day but today

I can’t control
My destiny
I trust my soul
My only hope
is just to be

There’s only now
There’s only here
Give in to love
Or live in fear
No other path
No other way
No day but today

You have it too.

Today is the first day of the rest of your life.

Do it today.

– “What day is it?” asked Pooh – “It’s today”, squeaked Piglet – “My favorite day”, said Pooh.

What is inspiring about Lady Gaga?

In Inspiration, Music, Video on December 5, 2011 at 10:24 pm

A lot of things.

First of all, she is not afraid to shock. She is not afraid to tell the whole world who she is, no matter how wicked or psychotic it might seem for most of the people. She is not afraid to try.

She is fearless. And through this fearlessness she is showing her attitude. And her art. And this is something to be praised for.

‘I want women — and men — to feel empowered by a deeper and more psychotic part of themselves. The part they’re always trying desperately to hide. I want that to become something that they cherish,’ she tells us. This is a very brave thing to say. Especially for a pop star, in the doll-like glossy world when more often than not they try to please everyone with their beauty and glamour. This is something amazing. The music world is being shifted into an entirely new direction. Lady Gaga treats her persona as a theatrical creation. Let it be that way. But what if it stays that way? Actors constantly use darker parts of themselves to create the most inspiring and satisfying roles. All kinds of creators are delving into the innerness of themselves in order to find the right word. Or the right note. Why then should ordinary people hide it? ‘If you don’t have any shadows you’re not in the light.‘ That’s what she said. And this is entirely meaningful and sometimes forgotten. You have to be who you are. As I have written a few days ago, this is your only option, because everyone else is taken.

‘I’m beautiful in my way, ’cause God makes no mistakes, I’m on the right track, baby, I was Born This Way’ (this is the chorus to her song, ‘Born This Way‘).

The one below is one of the most beautiful, endearing and real performances of her I have ever seen or heard. It is sung with just a piano (played by her, naturally, she knows what she is doing in the show business…). There is a reason she is where she is in her career. Utmost.

If you closed your eyes, you wouldn’t believe it’s her. This is nothing like the party-polished radio version. This is total acoustic. This is like a striptease of the soul that’s happening while you’re listening.

Last, but not least, believe it or not, she wrote that song for her grandfather. Ditto.

She is singing this live. Live, live, LIVE, L.I.V.E, live. It doesn’t happen often in the contemporary show business (I’m talking pop, of course). And SHE PLAYS THE PIANO HERSELF (yes, even with these freakishly long nails!). Nothing else is needed in that configuration. No more instruments, no fireworks or dancers. This is enough to enchant people and make them listen.

Have you ever thought she couldn’t sing and it was all just produced in a good studio? Now you see she can do it all impeccably herself and that is, indeed, appreciated.

This song really moves me. It really does. No matter how many times I repeat the world ‘really’, it still really will. It just will.
And if you want to be even more twisted by her created spirit, here is something else she does.
Different than how the world sees her… Just different. Definitely, on purpose, different…

Happy St. Nicholas Day, everyone!

I believe I can fly

In Film, Inspiration, Music, Video on December 2, 2011 at 10:06 pm

‘Let your voice be heard, let your imagination take the flight.

Let yourself stretch a little more than you think you can.

Let’s what’s right and just above all triumph.’

This is what someone has written to me on Facebook.

A video that sums it up very well would be:

This is from the 1996 movie Space Jam, starring Michael Jordan and the Looney Toons characters (Bugs Bunny and his team)! If you have not seen it yet, you should not miss it!

These are the lyrics to this song:

R. Kelly – I Believe I Can Fly

I used to think that I could not go on
And life was nothing but an awful song
But now I know the meaning of true love
I’m leaning on the everlasting arms

If I can see it, then I can do it
If I just believe it, there’s nothing to it

I believe I can fly
I believe I can touch the sky
I think about it every night and day
Spread my wings and fly away
I believe I can soar
I see me running through that open door
I believe I can fly
I believe I can fly
I believe I can fly

See I was on the verge of breaking down
Sometimes silence can seem so loud
There are miracles in life I must achieve
But first I know it starts inside of me, oh

If I can see it, then I can be it
If I just believe it, there’s nothing to it…

Jackson Pollock

In Inspiration, Music, Painting on November 28, 2011 at 3:52 pm
“Abstract painting is abstract. It confronts you. There was a reviewer a while back who wrote that my pictures didn’t have any beginning or any end. He didn’t mean it as a compliment, but it was.” Jackson Pollock

These are the words of Jackson Pollock, the inventor of the abstract expressionist movement.

Here is one of his paintings.

Jackson Pollock’s painting

I hope it inspires you.

It inspires me a lot.

Use your imagination to find whatever you see in it…

🙂

He is prominent. Lady Gaga, when visiting her old school, Sacred Heart Catholic School in Manhattan, NYC, on Thanksgiving, was shocked by how many children had heard about him:

“I asked you all what you have on Thanksgiving and you didn’t know but you know who Jackson Pollock is.”

The quotation comes from the article posted on Music News website. You can find it here.

This is something.

Have a lovely day, everyone!

Stunning views!

Here is the beautiful view from the top of the hill in Greenwich Park, just next to the Royal Observatory.

I was there today. This is its November view. You can see London’s Canary Wharf and the skyline. Isn’t it beautiful?

I got really inspired by the astronomy and the time measurement methods (moments are passing by so quickly…), while visiting the Royal Observatory and the Planetarium. The Universe is so huge and powerful. I think we do not think about it enough.

Inspired by Greenwich, I looked up on the Internet and I started viewing NASA’s photos. Here are the ones I found for you.

This is The Giant Nebula 3603, one of the most massive young star clusters in the Milky Way Galaxy.

Looks like from a movie. But it is real!

It is 20.000 light years away.  And the image spans roughly 17 light years…

If you come to Greenwich’s Planetarium, you can see a show called The Secret Lives of Stars… I think I can recommend it for gloomy autumn evenings. It will cheer you up. 🙂 Whenever you are near, or plan to come to London and Greenwich, this is something worth seeing. And the Meridian Line, of course. Both on the ground and in the air, made of a green laser light,  pointing very far… Extraordinary experience. You can see the history of time measurement in the Observatory as well. Amazing.

These are Ancient White Dwarf Stars. Uncovered by NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope.

They are 12 to 13 billion years old…

Nice idea for a wallpaper?

…If we are talking about dwarfs and astronomy, there is something that came to my mind… A little bit of humour is good.

🙂

This video shows a fragment of Moomins and the Comet Chase 🙂

The music is done by Bjork.

I hope you enjoy. 🙂

Enjoy the day of today!

The World is so full of miracles!

Weather

In Inspiration, Music, Nature, Photography, Video, Wildlife on November 25, 2011 at 5:02 pm

My weather forecast for today is: rays with a chance of inspiration drizzle.

Weather affects us in many ways. That is a fact. When it is sunny, we feel happy and invigorated. Even some rays of light can give us smile.

When it rains, some might feel down. I, personally, like rain. It sounds beautiful and it clears the air. And I like clouds. Especially on pictures.

National Geographic prove in their Photo Tips, that you can take an especially beautiful and unique picture on days when the weather is bad.

On one of these days this photo was made.

New Your City skyline © National Geographic

This is New York City’s skyline  in a fog. How different then the way it is normally seen. The colours are different. The atmosphere is different. The mood.

When we are feeling gloomy because of the weather, it is good to look with a fresh perspective, imagining, or even taking a picture. Even with your mind. You can always find something beautiful, even in the densest fog ever.

Winter can be beautiful too. And a lot of fun.

Fog, once more.

Skyscrapers in Dubai © National Geographic

If we are talking about Skyscrapers, there is a song that can change your attitude for the better, even if you are going through a bad day (or days).

It is called… SKYSCRAPER. It is sung by Demi Lovato.

In the introduction she is being thankful to her fans for supporting her through a difficult time.

Nice to be thankful for something. There are lots of things to be thankful for. Every day. I am sure you would come up with many reasons. Good exercise after Thanksgiving.

How beautiful a lightning can be.

As you see, even adverse weather conditions can be beautiful. If you are prepared for them, have an umbrella, warm clothes and shoes, you can enjoy the beauty and take the moment to think of it nicely.

Keep warm!

Orianthi – Drive Away.

In Inspiration, Music, Video on November 23, 2011 at 6:33 pm

There are days when we want to get somewhere else than we are.

There are days when we keep dozing off or daydreaming about another place, some distant (or even very close) location and think about things that could happen there.

There are days when we want to… drive away. Like in the Tracy Chapman’s ‘Fast Car’… But in a positive way. 🙂

Yesterday I was writing about Orianthi, and there is another song by her, perfect for that kind of mood.

It’s called… DRIVE AWAY. 🙂

Here is a very special acoustic version played and sung by her sitting underneath a big tree… Just for you guys. 🙂

I hope you enjoy that. 🙂
