The future…

You suppose…

In Inspiration, Nature, Photography on May 24, 2012 at 11:47 am

You suppose you are the trouble
but you are the cure

You suppose that you are the lock on the door
but you are the key that opens it

It’s too bad that you want to be someone else
You don’t see your own face, your own beauty
Yet, no face is more beautiful than yours.”

Rumi 1207-1273
Persian Poet and Sufi Mystic

Be yourself.

Intimacy is the capacity to be rather weird with someone – and finding that that’s ok with them.

You are strong.

In Inspiration, Music, Photography, Universe on January 30, 2012 at 11:27 pm

What is strength?

Is it something you are born with?

Can you learn this?

Is it working hard to get what you want?

Is it tons of muscles?

Is it the way you wake up every morning, struggling to hold it together, facing difficulties and going through them no matter what happens?

Choose one for you or create an entirely new definition to suit your dreams.

Exactly. Your dreams define who you are. No matter what happens, you are supposed to follow your dreams. You were made to do that. And to be strong. And that is sometimes useful more than anything,

Strength is not built on muscles. It is built in your heart.

It is that little voice that tells you to do things, when everyone else is telling you to stop.

It’s that little hint of hope that makes you do something, despite it being deemed impossible.

Finally, it is something you ARE born with. Everybody is. It’s up to you, whether you’re gonna use it.

You were born beautiful. And you were born strong.

Stay strong.

How to write a novel?

In Inspiration, Photography on January 6, 2012 at 3:10 pm

There are three rules for writing a novel.

Unfortunately, no one knows what they are.

— W. Somerset Maugham

It’s your year.

In Inspiration, Nature, Photography on January 3, 2012 at 11:32 pm

2012, you are so very welcome to my door. Thank you very much for coming.

Some say, the Age of Aquarius is about to start soon and we are going to experience significant changes. Human attention is going to shift and the Earth will never be the same again… Who knows.

Something is definitely going to change, it always does. It is a beginning of a new year.  The date changes one digit and we immediately change our calendars. That is to start with. Then our age changes and we celebrate our next birthday with our friends and families, wishing we were young again (or, if we ARE young, wishing we were teenagers/kids again, silly…). We also have New Year’s resolutions that we try to keep at least for a couple of months or weeks after 01.01… It’s good to start anew. It is always possible to do that. Not only in January.

It is possible to keep your promises and rituals (more fitness? acting classes? travel?) going and not give up on a first obstacle or when there is not enough time. Do not be harsh to yourself. That does not help…

BE GRATEFUL for what you have. A lot of people would envy and wish for things you have and sometimes take for granted. So, this year, do not do this, for a change.

As you may know, I have launched a photographic part of Emerald Me. The Inspiration Blog. It is called Emerald Me. The Gallery. You can find all the inspirational and beautiful photographs and pictures (design, drawings, paintings, graphics, etc.) that I find uplifting or simply brilliant. Here is a little taster for you to bite…

Are you beautiful?

In Fashion, Film, Inspiration, Painting, Photography on December 8, 2011 at 11:59 pm

Today I saw Leonardo da Vinci‘s paintings and drawings. They are on display in National Gallery in London during the exhibition “Leonardo da Vinci. Painter at the Court of Milan”. They are going to stay there until 5th February 2012.

This is something I am not going to forget. The great Leonardo. One of the greatest minds in history. He created some of the most excellent painting masterpieces, he also designed mechanical appliances, had a broad knowledge of human anatomy (in fifteenth century!) and played music. He also, (in the 1400s!) designed something to be considered the first surviving example of abstract art. Really! You can see it on the exhibition. He really was a genius. A Renaissance Man, they say. Well, he lived in the Renaissance. This is what the term is derived from.

“The Mona Lisa”

He believed that the outer beauty was only a sign of inner virtues. Whatever was on someone’s mind, reflected quite much in their appearance, body language and impression that people were getting. Only someone with true values and virtues was beautiful.

Leonardo Da Vinci’s ‘Leda’

What does beauty mean today? This is not unusual to think that it is an external thing and that it is a matter of good stylists, hair products and marketing. This is what we can see in the media. Celeb magazines and websites are full of it, shops are full of ‘beauty products’. One one hand, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. On the other, some think of it as a universal set of rules and routines that people have to follow because the industry tells them to do so… But, do you really believe in this?

For me (and for many other people, famous and not famous) beauty is an inner thing. It is something what you carry inside you, encapsulated in your confidence and self-belief. It is also in the power of your dreams and in who you are and who you want to be. This is the inner quality that shines through and reflects in your exterior. This idea is not mine. It is as old as the modern world, as old as the times, as universal as the sun and rain. I can think of the ancient Greeks when saying that. The ancient philosophers, and also a lot of ordinary people, believed in that coherence and mutual dependence of the body and mind. The balance between them was one of the most desired things to strive for. Not to mention ancient Asian philosophers, who were absolutely convinced that there was no differentiation in fact.

This is what Leonardo’s paintings were. They were the depiction of a human mind, reflected in the body language, the essence of the people portrayed captured in time and therefore unable to age, frozen on the canvas forever (or as long as the canvas survive). Timelessly beautiful.

‘Vitruvian Man’ by Leonardo.

Today, the canon of beauty has changed. Or, has it, really? Or is the pursue of external beauty just a product of media and advertising campaigns? What does being beautiful mean? Please tell me your thoughts.

I guess, the focus of attention is shifting. People are tired of the struggle for perfection which can never be completed, since perfection is something that does not exist in reality.

Striving for physical beauty can make you look beautiful, but in an external way that can burst like a soap bubble (not to mention, bring you eating disorders). Being yourself, believing in yourself and being the best person you can ever be makes you look truly beautiful in the eyes of others.

Listen to Audrey Hepburn

“Life, if you know how to use it, is long.”

– this was said by one of Leonardo’s pupils, Giovanni Antionio Boltraffio. He wrote this on one of his paintings, you can see it on the exhibition. He believed this. I believe it too.

Stunning views!

Here is the beautiful view from the top of the hill in Greenwich Park, just next to the Royal Observatory.

I was there today. This is its November view. You can see London’s Canary Wharf and the skyline. Isn’t it beautiful?

I got really inspired by the astronomy and the time measurement methods (moments are passing by so quickly…), while visiting the Royal Observatory and the Planetarium. The Universe is so huge and powerful. I think we do not think about it enough.

Inspired by Greenwich, I looked up on the Internet and I started viewing NASA’s photos. Here are the ones I found for you.

This is The Giant Nebula 3603, one of the most massive young star clusters in the Milky Way Galaxy.

Looks like from a movie. But it is real!

It is 20.000 light years away.  And the image spans roughly 17 light years…

If you come to Greenwich’s Planetarium, you can see a show called The Secret Lives of Stars… I think I can recommend it for gloomy autumn evenings. It will cheer you up. 🙂 Whenever you are near, or plan to come to London and Greenwich, this is something worth seeing. And the Meridian Line, of course. Both on the ground and in the air, made of a green laser light,  pointing very far… Extraordinary experience. You can see the history of time measurement in the Observatory as well. Amazing.

These are Ancient White Dwarf Stars. Uncovered by NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope.

They are 12 to 13 billion years old…

Nice idea for a wallpaper?

…If we are talking about dwarfs and astronomy, there is something that came to my mind… A little bit of humour is good.

This video shows a fragment of Moomins and the Comet Chase 🙂

The music is done by Bjork.

I hope you enjoy. 🙂

Enjoy the day of today!

The World is so full of miracles!

Be Yourself.

In Film, Inspiration, Photography on November 26, 2011 at 10:38 am

It is important to stay true to yourself. Whatever you do, this applies.

As someone said, be yourself, because everyone else is taken.

I cannot stress how relevant this topic is in current days, when struggle for popularity and beauty has never been so harsh.

It is important to remember: YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL. AND YOU ARE WORTHY. No matter what glossy magazines show and TV broadcasts. YOU ARE YOURSELF. There are lots of people who would love to be you. I can assure.

There is an article from the Film News website, about Salma Hayek. She says about the beginnings of her career:

“If I had followed someone else I would never have gotten here. Sometimes when we try to get outside of ourselves to be like someone else you miss out on so many beautiful things that you didn’t know about because you were looking at someone else.”

Salma Hayek in ‘Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant’, 2009

According to the article, the actress blames modern technology for society’s fascination with what other people think. Have you ever stopped doing something because you thought someone might not like what you were doing, and then regretted it? If so, this article is for you.

She also says: “Everybody is obsessed with their own identity seen through other people and everybody thinks very much outside of themselves. So this is my advice, try to figure out who you really are and not who you want other people to think you are.”

You can find the article here.
